Birthplace: Henderson, Iowa Resided In: Emerson, Iowa Richard B. "Toppers" Magers, age 67, of Emerson, Iowa passed away Monday, September 8, 2003 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak after a brief illness. Richard Beryle "Toppers" Magers was born September 22, 1935 in rural Henderson, Iowa the son of LeRoy and Lois (Fritcher) Magers. He was raised near Henderson and graduated from Henderson High School in 1954. Richard started farming after High School and was in the Iowa Army National Guard from 1953-1961. He was united in marriage to Judith Ann Coppock on July 18, 1959 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. After their marriage, Richard and Judy farmed until 1980 at which time they moved into Henderson, Iowa. In 1984 they moved to Emerson. Richard worked for ROMECH where he retired in 1998. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and son: Scott Magers on December 22, 2002. Survivors include his wife: Judy Magers of Emerson, Iowa; daughter: Libby Grummert and her husband Vertis of Friendswood, Texas; 2 sons: Drew Magers and his wife Angie of Emerson, Iowa; and Chad Magers of Henderson, Iowa; 4 grandchildren: Sara Grummert and Zachary Grummert of Friendswood, Texas; Jud Magers of Emerson, Iowa; and Ethan Wright of Grant, Alabama; 2 brothers: Bob Magers and his wife Jan of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and Bill Magers of Council Bluffs, Iowa; sister: Deloma Allensworth and husband Dick of Emerson, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, September 12, 2003 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jerome Wagoner officiating. Burial will be in the Farm Creek Cemetery at Henderson, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Thursday, September 11, 2003 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Foundation. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
