Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Richard Allan Hummel, age 65, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Sunday, February 22, 2015 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Richard was born July 13, 1949 in Red Oak, Iowa the son of Max and Phyllis (Michelson) Hummel. He was raised in Red Oak where he attended school. In his younger years, Richard worked at the Grand Theater. He was united in marriage to Marcia Thomas on June 1, 1968 in Stanton, Iowa. Over the years Richard lived in Stennett and Coin, Iowa before moving back to Red Oak. He worked for Thos. D. Murphy Co. for 26 years, Bingo King in Council Bluffs for 8 years, City Print in Omaha and most recently FRESCO in Red Oak retiring in 2013. He enjoyed traveling, Egyptian history, cartoons like "Sponge Bob" and "Scooby Doo", video games, cars, spending time with his grandkids, and watching Allan work on cars. Preceding him in death were his father: Max Hummel; wife: Marcia Hummel; brother: Gary Hummel; and mother-in-law: Marilee Thomas. Survivors include his children: Tony Hummel and wife Glenna of Red Oak, IA; Phillip Hummel of Baltimore, MD; and Allan Hummel and wife Melissa of Red Oak, IA; grandchildren: Ryan Hummel and wife Aprill; Amy Hummel; Jacob Hummel; Geoffrey Sellers; Jake Sellers; Nathan Hummel; Destiny Hummel; Sadie Linfor; Ethan Hummel; and Angel Hummel; great grandchildren: Hunter Parsons and Faith Hummel; mother: Phyllis Hummel of Red Oak, IA; brother: Donald Hummel and wife Kathy of Red Oak, IA; father-in-law: Victor Thomas of Boone, IA; sisters-in-law: Ethel Hummel of Shenandoah, IA and Vicki Gustafson and husband Rick of Ogden, IA; brothers-in-law: Benjamin Thomas and wife Janell of Mt.Vernon, OH; Andrew Thomas and wife Julie of Bedford, IA; and Steve Masters and wife Julie of Red Oak, IA; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Friday, February 27. 2015 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Thursday, February 26, 2015 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the family. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
