Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Richard E. "Rip" Fisher, age 86, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Richard Edward "Rip" Fisher was born October 3, 1922 in Red Oak, Iowa the son of Eugene B. "Buck" and Marie P. (Durland) Fisher. He was raised in Red Oak graduating from high school in the Class of 1939 at the age of 16. He started working for the Thomas D. Murphy Calendar Company before serving his country in the Army from 1943 until 1945. He was stationed in the Philippines, New Guinea, and Australia before returning to Red Oak where he again went to work at the Murphy Company. Rip was united in marriage to LaVonne Josephson on March 15, 1946 in Kansas. He worked for the Murphy Company for many years and was the National Sales Manager and had been a member of the 15-20 year club for many years when he retired. Rip was also a member of the First United Methodist Church, a 62 year member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks where he was Secretary for many years, the American Legion, former VFW member, and was a longtime member of the Red Oak Country Club. Over the years, Rip coached Little League, was an avid sports fan, New York Yankees fan, and a Nebraska Cornhuskers fan. LaVonne and Rip loved to dance and always managed to have a "good" time. Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter: Patricia "Patsy" Fisher; sister: Gwendolyn Jackson; and brothers: Billy, Jack, Robert, Jim, and infant brother, Dennis. Rip is survived by his family whom he cherished, including his wife: LaVonne Fisher of Red Oak, Iowa; daughter: Cathy Swanson and husband Jerry of Red Oak, IA; son: Michael "Mick" Fisher and wife Marlys of Red Oak, IA; grandchildren: Laurie Van Scoy and husband Jeff of Red Oak, IA; Wendy Ensley and husband David of Glenwood, IA; Heidi Wendt and husband Aaron of Red Oak, IA; Nicole Kathol and husband Jay of Council Bluffs, IA; Richard E. Fisher and wife Tianna of Council Bluffs, IA; and Tricia Spangenberg and husband Jared of Council Bluffs, IA; great grandchildren: Abbey Smith and husband Adam of Red Oak, IA; Allie Van Scoy and Andi Van Scoy of Red Oak, IA; Benjamin Ensley and Samantha Ensley of Glenwood, IA; Madison Wendt, Kamryn Wendt, and Tori Wendt of Red Oak, IA; and Alivia Kathol, Preston Kathol, and Beau Kathol of Council Bluffs, IA; and Masen Fisher of Council Bluffs, IA; great great grandson: Aiden Smith of Red Oak, IA; sisters-in-law: Lois Fisher of Georgia; Juanita Fisher of Eugene, Oregon; Katie Fisher of Red Oak, IA; and Eloise Wagner of Red Oak, IA; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, October 31, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Fred Pilecki officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-7 PM Thursday, October 30, 2008 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. A memorial fund is being established in Richard Fisher's name. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
