Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Richard Dean "Dick" Cornelison, age 81, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Friday, July 31, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Society. Dick was born September 17, 1933 in Red Oak, Iowa the son of Guy Herbert and Doris Margaret (Sickmon) Cornelison. The family moved to Wales, Iowa when Dick was a freshman and he graduated from Wales Lincoln School in 1951. He moved to Des Moines, Iowa and later served in the United States Army. Dick was united in marriage to Ardith Gammell on September 26, 1959 in Red Oak, Iowa. They lived all of their married life in Red Oak area. Over the years he worked for Wilson Concrete, Montgomery County as a surveyor, the US Post Office retiring after 25 years of service, and drove a school bus for Red Oak Schools from 1991 until 2009. In his younger years Dick was quite a baseball player and was drafted by the Yankees. He played for the US Army team, Stanton town team, and for Nodaway. Dick loved bowling and bowled a 300 game during his career, always loved a good card game at the pool hall and loved watching all his grandchildren's events. Preceding him in death were his parents; brother: Kenneth Cornelison; sister: Darlene Anderson; and sister-in-law: Betty Lehman. Survivors include his wife: Ardith Cornelison of Red Oak; children: Mike Cornelison and wife Ann of Ankeny, IA; Kelly Boucher and husband Mark of Elliott, IA; Jason Cornelison and Megan Reynolds of Clarinda, IA; Steve Cornelison, Sharon Davis, and Deborah Scovel all of Des Moines, IA; grandchildren: Matt Cornelison and Josh Cornelison of Chicago, IL; Luke Cornelison of Ankeny, IA; Jessica Flippin and fiance Erik Wong of Omaha, NE; Mason Boucher, Alyx Flippin, and Hannah Boucher all of Elliott, IA; Kayla Cornelison and Jordyn Cornelison of Red Oak, IA; and Jaxon Cornelison of Clarinda, IA; brothers-in-law: Eldon Gammell and wife Margy of Creston, IA; and Ross Lehman of Fresno, CA; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Friday, August 7, 2015 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Pastor Ricky Rohrig, Sr. officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Thursday, August 6, 2015 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association, the First United Methodist Church or the Good Samaritan Society. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
