Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Richard L. "Rich" Blue, age 78, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Sunday, January 18, 2009 at the Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska after an extended illness. Richard Lee Blue was born January 17, 1931 in Red Oak, Iowa, the son of Arthur and June (Perry) Blue. Rich graduated from the Red Oak Community High School in the class of 1948. He worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation until 1971 when he went to work for Leonard Nelson Construction. On June 10, 1972, Rich was united in marriage to Karen Deitchler Scott in Omaha, Nebraska. They lived all of their married life in Red Oak, Iowa. Rich continued his work with Leonard Nelson Construction which became Cashatt and Sons Construction. For the past nine years, he worked for JFSCO Engineering. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Red Oak Eagles Lodge, and the Red Oak Elks Lodge where he was a lifetime member. Over the years, Rich enjoyed sports including softball and bowling. He had received many trophies and awards for his bowling skills. Recently Rich had been a big supporter of the Montgomery County Relay For Life and was a member of the Immanuel Hospital Cancer Survivors Club. Rich was a true family man devoting much of his time to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Karen Blue of Red Oak, Iowa; children: Terry Blue and wife Debra of Omaha, Nebraska, Tammi Janowski and husband Jeff of Omaha, Jeff Blue and wife Stacey of Omaha, and Jon Blue of Oxford, England; step-daughter, Judy Scott of Malvern, Iowa; grandchildren: Scott and Jessica Blue, Chris Blue, Justin Blue, Peyton Blue, and Logan Blue; 2 step-granddaughters, Jessica Scott and Kristin Ward; 2 great grandchildren, Jordan and Miley Blue, and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, January 23, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Thursday, January 22, 2009 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church, the YMCA Endowment Fund, the Montgomery County Relay For Life, or the Performing Arts and Education Association of Southwest, Iowa. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
