Obituary

Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Richard E. Baker, age 77, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Sunday, November 13, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Care Center. Richard Eugene Baker was born October 1, 1934 in Red Oak, Iowa the son of Archie and Neola (Hall) Baker. He has been a lifelong resident of Red Oak. Richard was united in marriage to K. Marie Branan on January 11, 1964 in Villisca, Iowa. He started working at the age of sixteen at the Wilkins Bakery and then Wilson Concrete where he worked for 23 years. He also worked several years at Star Agri and Red Oak Forge before working for Hardy Construction where he retired after many years of service. He loved antiques, going to auctions, and collecting things. He collected railroad spikes, straight razors, pocket watches, old clocks, and padlocks. The past year Richard had been a resident of the Good Samaritan Society. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Robert, Frederick, and George; sisters: Mary Baker and Helen Shaw; sisters-in-law: Norma Baker and Jane Baker; and brothers-in-law: Ted Shaw and Robert Adams. Survivors include his wife: K. Marie Baker of Red Oak, Iowa; children: Debra Ross and husband Leon of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Carl Baker and wife Brenda of Red Oak, Iowa; grandchildren: Ashley, Troy, and Jennifer Ross all of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Alli Baker of Red Oak, Iowa; brothers: Jack Baker and wife Rosalie of Davenport, Iowa and Rodney Baker and wife Judy of Kelso, Washington; sisters: Laura Jean Adams of Onalaska, Wisconsin and Judy Rebitzke and husband Norman of Red Oak, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends. Graveside memorial services will be held 2 PM Thursday, November 17, 2011 at the Arlington Cemetery near Villisca, Iowa with Rev. JoAnn Thomas officiating. Memorials are suggested to the Good Samaritan Society. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
