Rex Allen DeWitt, age 72, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. Rex was born August 25, 1951, in Creston, Iowa, the son of Max and Marcella (Bode) DeWitt. He was raised in the Griswold, Iowa, area graduating from Griswold Community High School. He then attended Iowa Western Community College in the Auto Mechanics program. He started his working career with Banker Motors in Red Oak and then started farming. Rex was united in marriage to Shirley Archer on July 15, 1972, in Red Oak, Iowa. They lived in Pilot Grove township their whole married life until moving into Red Oak about a year ago. Rex's passion was the farm and he enjoyed riding his motorcycle.

Preceding him in death were his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Jeep and Helen Archer; and sister-in-law: Marlene Taylor. Survivors include his wife: Shirley DeWitt of Red Oak, IA; brother: Dwight DeWitt and wife Donna of Grant, IA; brother-in-law: Greg Taylor of Morton's Mill, IA; nephews and their families: Tony DeWitt and wife Janelle of Red Oak, IA; Jeremy DeWitt and wife JoAnn of Red Oak, IA; Travis Taylor and wife Stacy of Stanton, IA; and Tony Taylor and wife Amy of Kearney, NE; niece: Tiffany Becker and husband Chris and their family of Jefferson, SD; and many other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life gathering will be held from 1-3 PM Sunday, December 17, 2023, at the Red Oak Eagles Lodge. It will be a time for fellowship and a light lunch.
