Birthplace: Gravity, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Rebecca Anna Sliger McKinney, age 76, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Thursday, October 25, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society. On a cool fall morning in September of 1942, RC and Vera (Tackett) Barnes awaited the birth of their sixth child, Rebecca, who was born on the 11th day. Rebecca attended country school through the 8th grade and graduated from the Clarinda High School in the class of 1961. She was united in marriage to Clarence Sliger on March 4, 1961 and to this union, three children were born, Clarence Todd, Kimberly Lynn, and Tawnya Sue. Throughout her life, Rebecca worked a variety of jobs from retail to laying field tile to custodial work. Regardless of the position, Rebecca took great pride in her work and always found joy in the job. First and foremost, her favorite "job" was being a mother. On August 15, 1994, she was united in marriage to Gary McKinney and they resided in Clarinda and Strahan before making Red Oak their home. Rebecca loved the outdoors and watching the birds feed at her many bird feeders. Her greatest joy came from her family. Preceding her in death were her parents; siblings: Eldon Barnes, Elaine Dillon, Kenneth Arlen Barnes, and Carlotta Key. Survivors include her husband: Gary McKinney of Red Oak, Iowa; children: Todd (Glenda) Sliger of Underwood, Iowa; Kimberly (Gene) Behrens of Villisca, Iowa; and Tawnya Sliger of Villisca, Iowa; grandchildren: Steven (Tara) Sliger, Eric (Cassie) Sliger, Amanda (Zachary) Ward, Jordan (Austine) Behrens, Daniel Lemus Sliger, and Rebecca Lemus Sliger; great grandchildren: Natalie and Mackenzie Ward, Lilah Sliger, and River Sliger; sisters: Eleanor (Ron) Moran and Leanna (Dennis) Ohnmacht; brother: Gerald (Sherrie) Barnes; step-son: Steve (Victoria) McKinney of Strahan, Iowa; step-grandchildren: Ryan (Angela) Belt, Gary (Melissa) McKinney, and Angel (Justin) Paul; many step-great grandchildren; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and many good friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-7 PM Monday, October 29, 2018 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
