Raymond "Ray" Daly Roberts, aged 88, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Friday, January 28, 2022, at his home. Ray was born November 14, 1933, in Lincoln, Nebraska, the son of Raymond and Mabel (Daly) Roberts. Ray, affectionately called "Buddy" by his family, lived many different places in the United States and overseas in his youth. He graduated from Jordan High School in Long Beach, CA and then served in the United States Navy during the Korean War as a Radio Operator on the USS Nicholas, earning the National Defense, Good Conduct, Korean Service, and United Nations awards. Ray returned to California where he attended the University of California at Davis, earning his Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology and Geophysics. He was united in marriage to Antonette "Toni" Jacklevich on February 1, 1964, in San Francisco, California. They lived many places including Omaha, Nebraska for seven years before moving to Council Bluffs, Iowa, where they raised their family. Ray worked for the Department of Water Resources in California, the Army Corp of Engineers in Omaha, and later owned and operated Roberts Geophysical Services until his retirement. Ray and Toni moved to Red Oak to be near their son, Dan, and his family, in 2020.
Ray was a talented artist who painted oil paintings, was a model builder, and was an avid coin and stamp collector. He could fix anything and enjoyed home improvement projects. He also loved the outdoors including gardening, growing orchids, and watching wildlife at home, or on his many visits to Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium with family. Ray had a great sense of humor, and the family remembers lots of laughter throughout the years. Ray always enjoyed time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved to barbecue, tell stories, and enjoyed a good cigar. He was a devoted husband and father and was deeply proud and loyal to them.
Preceding him in death were his parents and his eldest brother: Harold "Hal" Roberts and his wife, Shirley. Survivors include his wife of almost 58 years: Toni Roberts of Red Oak; children: Shirley Murphy and husband Brian of Hollister, CA; Alice Konecny and husband Tim of North Omaha, NE; and Dan Roberts and wife Angie of Stanton, IA; grandchildren: Patrick, Connor, and Bridget Murphy of Hollister, CA; Drew Roberts of Omaha, NE; Nicole Roar and wife Ana of Seattle, WA; and Emma, Will, and Jack Roberts of Stanton, IA; brother: William "Bill" Roberts and wife Catherine of Rolling Hills Estates, CA; sister: Marylou Weiske and husband Gerald of Denton, TX; and many other relatives and friends.
