Obituary

Birthplace: Nodaway County, Missouri Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Ray Lasley, age 90, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Friday, June 14, 2002 at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa after an extended illness. Raymond Clifford Lasley was born April 12, 1912 in Nodaway County, Missouri the son of Roland and Lora Elma Jane (Johnson) Lasley. Ray attended school in Missouri and at a young age started farming with his father. Ray was united in marriage to Nora Lucille Griffin and later was united in marriage to Flossie Mae Barber. During his working life, Ray was employed by N.N. Turner, Dannen Mills, and started farming in 1956 while working at the Thomas D. Murphy Company. Ray farmed Southeast of Stanton until he retired in 1988 when he moved into Red Oak. He loved playing Cribbage at the senior center, enjoyed the New York Yankees, Louis L'Amour Books, International Tractors, and could be found walking many miles around Red Oak. Ray was also a long time member of the First United Methodist Church in Red Oak. Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter: Donna Wachter in July of 1989; 3 grandchildren: Cynthia Howrey; Connie Taylor; and Dennis Butcher; and a brother: Roy Lasley. Survivors include his 4 daughters: Barbara Lebeck of Kimballton, Iowa; Nadine Sellers and her husband Clyde of Red Oak, Iowa; Sharon Hultquist and her husband Ron of Red Oak, Iowa; and Lois Hartley and her husband Joe of Kansas City, Missouri; 13 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 23 great great grandchildren: Son-in-law: Jim Wachter of Carter Lake, Iowa; sister-in-law: Creta Lasley of Sun City, California; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Wednesday, June 19, 2002 at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Frank Schultz officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7-8 PM Tuesday, June 18, 2002 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church. May God bless his memory and give strength to those who mourn.
