Birthplace: Cass County, Iowa Resided In: Auburn Washington, formerly Elliott, Iowa Ralph Samuel Selders, age 90, of Auburn, Washington, formerly Elliott, Iowa, passed away October 13, 2020 in Auburn, Washington. Ralph was born September 23, 1930 in Cass County, Iowa, near Griswold, the son of George Samuel and Ruth Viola (Lipp) Selders. In his early years, Ralph lived in Audubon, Cass, and Pottawattamie Counties in Iowa until he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1951. On October 1, 1955, Ralph was united in marriage to Joan Emeline Newell in Bensonville, Illinois. He was discharged in 1959. After being discharged, Ralph moved to Washington state to work for Boeing as an aerospace electrician. He was awarded several awards for his work on a variety of Boeing's aircraft models. He also worked in the Boeing/NASA project and wired one of the two lunar landers. In 1973, he moved back to Iowa to help with his aging mother after his father passed away. He remained in Griswold and the surrounding area until moving back to Washington to be near his daughters after suffering a life altering stroke in 2018. Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers: Lloyd and Floyd (Twins), George, Theodore, Paul, and Raymond Selders; sisters: Mildred Miller and Dorothy Gigliotti; ex-wife: Joan Selders; step-son: Gregory Foster; granddaughter: Veronica Tye; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins including a very close cousin: Cletus Ireland. Survivors include his daughters: Kathy Lake and Terry Lake; step-daughter: Linda Craver; grandchildren: Craig Lake, Joy Linnell, Timothy Lake, Michael Lake, Samuel Tye, and Tyler Lake; step-grandchildren: George Chapalonis, Jerry Chapalonis, Sherry Craver, Shelly Craver, Donald Craver, and Wayne Craver; many great and great great grandchildren; sister: Helen Rothe; many nieces and nephews including those very close to him: Betty Raiford and Randy Selders. Graveside funeral services will be held 11 AM Friday, November 6, 2020 at the Whipple Cemetery near Griswold, Iowa, with military honors. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Social distancing and wearing masks is required.
