Obituary

Birthplace: Athelstan, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Ralph L. Jenkins, age 79, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at the Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska after a brief illness. Ralph Lavon Jenkins was born March 29, 1928 in Athelstan, Iowa the son of Calvin and Ruby (Scott) Jenkins. He was raised in Athelstan and attended school at Blockton where he graduated in 1944. He was united in marriage to Donna Terry on May 7, 1950 in Bedford, Iowa. They moved to Red Oak in 1956 where Ralph worked for Phillips 66 and later worked for Montgomery County retiring in 2008 after thirty years of service. He loved to play his guitar and sing, play cards and cribbage, hunt mushrooms, fish and hunt, make up poems about family and friends, tell jokes, as well as tease his grandkids and great grandkids. His wife and family were his life and he loved to spend all of his spare time with them. He also enjoyed sitting by his pond and feeding his Koi fish. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents and his sister: Kay Rector. Survivors include his wife: Donna Jenkins of Red Oak, Iowa; sons: Craig Jenkins and wife Susie of Bakersfield, California and Scott Jenkins and wife Ann of Red Oak, Iowa; daughters: Chris Jenkins of Bellevue, Nebraska; Cathy Drake and husband Bob of Red Oak, Iowa; and Debbie Cunningham and husband Glenn of Monroe, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Sunday, February 24, 2008 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Len Taylor officiating. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Saturday, February 23, 2008 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Red Oak Rescue Unit or the American Cancer Society. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
