Obituary

Rachel Anne Darby passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on June 19th, at Methodist Jennie Edmundson hospital, after an extended illness.

She lived a life of deep devotion and faith to God. She was a foundation of strength, support, and guidance for her family, friends, church, and community. She was a gifted piano player. She loved cooking and baking, and all who knew her enjoyed the occasional loaf of homemade bread she would share. She held a lifelong love of nature, from hours spent playing in the timber around her childhood home, to years living on and loving farm life, after moving to town she continued her passion of growing her garden and flowers, and feeding an abundant array of birds in her backyard. She loved rocking all her grandbabies. She had a giving and generous nature and tried to help all those around her, even into the final hours of her life.

Rachel was born to John and Norma (Crawford) Niday on May 7th, 1935. She married Dean Darby on December 5th, 1954 in Hastings, IA, and they had three children together, Mark, David, and Pamela.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Norma Niday, her husband Dean Darby, her son David Darby, and her brother Jack Niday.

She is survived by her son Mark and daughter-in-law Lisa, daughter-in-law Kris, and her daughter Pamela and son-in-law Harry; her grandchildren LaKishya and Greg Ortiz, David and Laura Darby, and Brynn and Cody Hudson; and her great grandchildren Camdyn (wife Madi), Jillian, Kylee, Joseph, Declan, Isabell, Orion, and Abel.

She seemed to have a way of impacting all those who she met, and she will be deeply missed by so very many.

A private family graveside celebration of life will be held at the Hastings, Iowa Cemetery.
