Birthplace: Wales, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Robert "Leonard" Carlson, age 87, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2019 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Leonard was born August 14, 1932 in Wales, Iowa, the son of Carl and Signe (Oberg) Carlson. He graduated from Wales Lincoln High School in the class of 1950. He was united in marriage to Donna Hunt on September 11, 1955 in Hawthorne, Iowa. Over the years, Leonard worked for the Farmers Mercantile, Fifield Furniture, Anderson Beverage, TRACO, Parker Hannifin, and Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. He was a longtime Elks Lodge member, former Jaycees member, Red Oak Country Club member and Red Oak Presbyterian Church member. His hobbies included boating, fishing, playing cards, horseshoes, watching basketball, and singing. He sang for many years with the Methodist Church choir. Preceding him in death were his parents; sisters: Martha Arnold and Mildred Meyerholtz; brother: Herb Carlson; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Ed and Enda Hunt; brothers-in-law: Virgil, Donald, and Keith Hunt, Jack Pfeiffer, and Bud Bradley; sisters-in-law: Phyllis Bradley, Kathleen Pfeiffer, Nelly Hunt, and Imy Hunt. Survivors include his wife: Donna Carlson of Red Oak, IA; daughters: Shari Mongar and husband David of Johnston, IA and Shelley Ippolito and husband Lary of Overland Park, KS; grandchildren: Geneva Knobbe and husband Ross of Oskaloosa, IA; Nicholas Ippolito and Morgan McCartney of Lenexa, KS; Anthony Ippolito of Fayetteville, AR; Sophia Ippolito of Tucson, AZ; and Joseph Ippolito of Overland Park, KS; brother-in-law: Delbert Hunt and wife Jane of Underwood, IA; sister-in-law: Jewell Hunt of Bartlesville, OK; niece and nephews: Dorothy and Gordon Arnold; Doug Meyerholtz of Olathe, KS; and Wesley Meyerholtz of Shenandoah, IA; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Monday, September 23, 2019 at the Red Oak Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 3-5 PM Sunday, September 22, 2019 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Foundation or the Red Oak Presbyterian Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
