Birthplace: Rural Stanton, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Quentin L. Carlson, age 93, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Quentin LeRoy Carlson was born March 9, 1920 near Stanton, Iowa the son of Clarence and Agnes (Carlson) Carlson. He graduated from Coburg High School in 1938 and attended one year at Iowa State University. He served in the United States Army during WWII and upon his return, started farming. Quentin was united in marriage to Jean Walter on April 21, 1946 in Corning, Iowa. They farmed all of their married life and Quentin retired in the mid 1990's. Quentin was a longtime Bethlehem Lutheran Church member, serving on the board for many years, was an American Legion member, a Farm Bureau member, a Lions Club member since 1947, was the Grant Township Clerk for 49 years, and served many years on the Montgomery County Elections Board. His hobbies included woodworking, electric trains, and reading. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife: Jean in 1996; and his sister: Bernice Swenson on June 18, 2013. Survivors include his children: Randy Carlson and wife Eileen of Essex, IA; Betty Williams and husband Mike of Omaha, NE; and Cathy Bee and husband Mike of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren: Jennifer Kelly and husband Jason of San Antonio, TX; Beth Carlson of Yorktown, IA; and Jeff Williams and wife Jamie of LaVista, NE; great grandchildren: Nathan, Gwen, and Sawyer Kelly of San Antonio, TX and Brian Williams of LaVista, NE; brother: Leland Carlson of Red Oak, IA; brothers-in-law: Wayne Walter of Dexter, IA and Jerry Walter and wife Donna of Sun City, AZ; sisters-in-law: Eileen Hargis of Bettendorf, IA and Mary Lou Schircliffe of San Dimas, CA; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Monday, July 1, 2013 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr. Eric Kutzli officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 2-4 PM Sunday, June 30, 2013 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church or the Red Oak Lions Club Scholarship Fund. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
