Birthplace: Adair County, Iowa Resided In: Elliott, Iowa Phyllis Lewis, age 72, of Elliott, Iowa passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2005 at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Red Oak, Iowa after an extended illness. Phyllis Jean Lewis was born July 21, 1933 in Adair County, Iowa the daughter of Hans and Vivian (Higgins) Christensen. She was raised in Adair County, Iowa and was united in marriage to John Lewis, Jr. on August 14, 1948 in Red Oak, Iowa. They lived all of their married life in the Elliott, Iowa area. Phyllis worked for JC Penny Company and Red Cross Drug Store for many years as well as the HyVee Pharmacy in recent years. She was a member of the Elliott Church of Christ. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; daughter: LaVonne Elaine Lewis in 1950; husband John Lewis, Jr. on September 11, 1994; brothers: Ken, Harold, and Bud Christensen; and sisters: Ruth Richardson and Shirley Benton. Survivors include her son: Pat Lewis and wife Deana of Elliott, Iowa; daughter: Sue Harris and husband Bo of Shenandoah, Iowa; grandchildren: Joe Lewis and Dennis Lewis, both of Elliott, Iowa; Jeff Harris and wife Dennell of Red Oak, Iowa; and Travis Harris of Shenandoah, Iowa; great grandchildren: Darrin Lewis of Elliott, Iowa; and P.J., Cydney, and Collin Harris all of Red Oak, Iowa; brothers and sisters: Marge Kerr of Burlington, Iowa; Dean Christensen of New London, Iowa; Jim and Darlene Christensen of Des Moines, Iowa; Skip and Myrna Christensen of Greenfield, Iowa; Bill Christensen of Des Moines, Iowa; Larry and Marlene Christensen of Greenfield, Iowa; and Judy and Larry Warrior of Fontanelle, Iowa; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Saturday, September 24, 2005 at the Elliott Church of Christ with Rev. Michael Hamilton officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery at Elliott. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Friday, September 23, 2005 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Heartland Hospice or the Elliott Business and Betterment Association. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
