Birthplace: Fermont County, IA Resided In: Red Oak, IA Phyllis Winifred Hummel, age 95, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Sunday, March 27, 2016 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Phyllis was born March 21, 1921 in Scott Township of Fremont County, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Eva (Carr) Michelson. She was raised in the Strahan area graduating from the Strahan High School. Phyllis was united in marriage to Max Hummel on April 11, 1939 in Malvern, Iowa. They moved to Red Oak in 1945 where Phyllis was a projectionist for Iowana Theater for many years and started work for the Glenwood State School in 1967. She retired in 1980. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and spending time with her family. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband: Max Hummel on May 14, 1994; sons: Gary Hummel and Richard Hummel; daughters-in-law: Carole, Marcia Jane, and Judy Hummel; and brothers: Cecil and Glen Michelson. Survivors include her son: Donald Hummel and wife Kathy of Red Oak, IA; 7 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; daughter-in-law: Ethel Hummel of Shenandoah, IA; sisters: Wanda Adams of Kellerton, IA and Betty South of Des Moines, IA; sisters-in-law: JoAnn Michelson and Betty Michelson both of Florida; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Friday, April 1, 2016 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Malvern, Iowa Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-7 PM Thursday, March 31, 2016 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Red Oak Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
