Birthplace: Lewis, Iowa Resided In: Villisca, Iowa Paul S. Smith, age 95, of Villisca, Iowa, passed away Friday, October 22, 2010 at the Villisca Good Samaritan Center. Paul Samuel Smith was born July 23, 1915 in Lewis, Iowa the son of Charles "Arthur" and Nora Faye (Neal) Smith. He was raised in the Villisca area and attended Villisca Schools. Paul was united in marriage to Ruth Barnes on April 10, 1939. Paul started his working career in Villisca with Pierson Trucking and later Sierp Oil. He also served in the Iowa Army National Guard in Villisca for 7 years. Paul also worked in Red Oak at the Furnace Factory until it closed in 1954 at which time he moved to Turlock, California for one year before moving to Pomona, California in 1955. He worked for General Dynamics from 1955 until retirement in 1977. He also retired as Union Secretary for the International Associates Machinists and Aerospace Workers Union. After "retirement" Paul worked for a tree trimmer and as a guard for the Newman Elementary School in Chino, California from 1979 until 2001 when he had to retire at the age of 85. Paul moved back to Villisca in 2001. Paul enjoyed working, bowling, bingo, card games, word puzzles, baseball, and reading, especially the Bible. He was a member of the Advent Christian Church and the Red Oak Eagles Lodge. Paul was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Ruth on May 26, 1969; infant son: Wayne Leroy in 1944; brothers: Don, Jim, Keith, and Elmer; and sister: Marjorie Smith Wilson. Survivors include his children: Patricia Phillips and husband Bill of Folsom, CA; Pamela Jackson and husband Larry of Chino Valley, CA; and Dale Smith of Vancouver, WA; grandchildren: Robert Phillips and wife Everiza of Folsom, CA; Ronald Phillips of Folsom, CA; Crystal McDaniels of Chino Valley, CA; Dale Smith, Jr. and wife Tish, Sharleen Johnson and husband Travis, and Tricia Pamela Smith all of Vancouver, WA; and a special granddaughter: Nicole Cisneros; many great grandchildren; brother: Glendon Smith and wife Wendy of Port Richey, FL; sisters-in-law: Louise Smith of Red Oak, IA and Lavonne Smith of Dunedin, FL; many nieces and nephews including a special niece: Mable McCuen of Stanton, IA; and other relatives and friends. Graveside funeral services will be held 2 PM Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at the Evergreen Cemetery in Red Oak with Pastor Darren Brisco officiating. Visitation with the family will start at 1 PM Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with family and friends going to the cemetery in procession. Memorials are suggested to the Advent Christian Church or the Villisca Good Samaritan Center Activity Fund. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
