Birthplace: Taylor County, IA Resided In: Red Oak, IA Paul R. McCoy, age 87, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Saturday, January 12, 2013 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Paul Raymond McCoy was born June 18, 1925 in Taylor County, Iowa near Gravity the son of Harley and Pearl (Kimpton) McCoy. He was raised in southwest Iowa and attended school at Essex. After school Paul started farming near Essex. He went to work for Don Gell Motors and operated a Skelly Station before starting McCoy Repair retiring after 50 plus years in business. Paul was united in marriage to Lois Sickels on January 3, 1948 in Tabor, Iowa. Paul and Lois have been longtime members of the First United Methodist Church where Paul served as Board member, Usher, and Memorial Committee Treasurer. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, woodworking, and old cars. Paul spent many years as a member of the Classy Chassis Car Club. Paul served many years in the Masonic Lodge. His membership spans 55 plus years. He was Past Master and 50 plus year member of Red Oak Lodge #162; Past High Priest and 50 plus year member of Montgomery Chapter #57 serving as Deputy District Grand High Priest (twice); Past Illustrious Master of Hiram Council #30 (twice) and was a 50 plus year member; Past Commander, Bruce Commandery#34 and for the Grand Commandery Knights Templar of Iowa serving multiple times as Grand First Guard, Grand Second Guard, Grand Junior Warder, Grand Warder, Grand Sentinel, Grand Standard Bearer; KYCH; York Rite College; Order of High Priesthood, Thrice Illustrious Master, Past Commanders Association, Past Masters Association; Knights of the Royal Arch; Knights Templar Cross of Honor; Order of Eastern Star, Oak Chapter #95, Past Patron; Rainbow Dad, Grand Cross of Honor and Board member; and Paul was the first and only Honorary Past Grand Commander in the state of Iowa. Paul was preceded in death by his parents; his son: Mick McCoy and his wife Sharon; brothers: Lowell, Roger, and Frank McCoy; and sisters: Elsie Larson and Dorothy Scott. Survivors include his wife: Lois McCoy of Red Oak, IA; sons: Robert McCoy and wife Judi of Scottsdale, AZ and Max "Tony" McCoy of Loveland, CO; grandchildren: Melinda Lucky and husband John of Defiance, IA; Michelle Johnson of Sioux City, IA; Emily DeFoor and husband Chris of Ft. Collins, CO; Susan Darr and husband Brandon of Homer, AK; and Marie Zimenoff and husband Aaron of Ft. Collins, CO; 8 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; brothers: Glenn McCoy and wife Barbara of Centralia, IA; Robert McCoy and wife Pauline of Creston, IA; Jerry McCoy of Louisville, CO; and Bill McCoy of Northboro, IA; sisters-in-law: Carolyn Hansen of South Dakota; Donna McCoy of Baypoint, CA; and Joy Frame of Lincoln, NE; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Fred Pilecki officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Masonic Rites will be conducted 6:30 PM Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with visitation with the family to follow until 8 PM. Memorials are suggested to the Montgomery County History Center, the First United Methodist Church, or the Masonic Eye Foundation. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
