Obituary

Birthplace: Elliott, Iowa Resided In: Mesa, Arizona Paul W. Gammell, age 88, of Mesa, Arizona, Elliott and Red Oak, Iowa passed away Sunday, May 26, 2013 at the Lund Home Hospice House in Gilbert, Arizona after a brief illness. Paul was born December 21, 1924 in Elliott, Iowa the oldest of four children of Don and Leota (Mercer) Gammell. Paul's siblings are Earl, Ruth, and Dorothy. Paul graduated from Stennett High School as Valedictorian and received the American Legion Award. Paul then started his 60 year farming career also raising cattle. He was united in marriage to Mildred Mason in 1944 and they were blessed with two daughters: Paula Louise and Linda Kay. Paul was active in 4-H as a young man, showed cattle at the Iowa State Fair, and then became a 4-H leader. He was active in Farm Bureau, served on the Montgomery County Compensation Board, was a member of the Elliott United Methodist Church, and was instrumental in getting the community building built in Elliott. Paul and Mildred resided in Arizona for the winters since 1999, never forgetting their special friends in Iowa where they spent the summers. Survivors include his wife: Mildred of Mesa, AZ; daughters: Paula Fink of Albuquerque, NM and Linda Petersen and husband Jerry of Atlantic, IA; grandchildren: Nicole, Danielle, Suzi, April, and James; great grandson: Dillon; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Monday, June 3, 2013 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 2-4 PM Sunday, June 2, 2013 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Elliott United Methodist Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
