Birthplace: Shenandoah, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Odette Marie Laverty, age 90, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at the Good Samaritan Society. Odette was born November 8, 1930 in Shenandoah, Iowa the daughter of Ronald J. and Jessie (Bice) Bruce. She graduated from the Strahan, Iowa high school in 1948. Odette was united in marriage to Robert Leroy Telschow in 1948. Two daughters were born to this union: Beverly Ann and Sandra Lee. She later married Paul Richard Laverty on July 10, 1964. One son was born to this union: Paul Richard Laverty, Jr. Odette worked at the egg plant in Malvern, Iowa, in the 1950's, the state school in Glenwood, Iowa and then Union Carbide in Red Oak, Iowa, until her retirement in 1987. She and Paul moved to Ogallala, Nebraska where they built a home. Odette moved back to Red Oak in 2000. As her health declined, she moved to Arlington Place in January of 2020 and eventually Good Samaritan Society in April of 2021. She was a member of the Red Oak Presbyterian Church and the Red Hatters. Odette enjoyed sewing and spending time with her family, especially the grandkids. Preceding her in death were her parents and brother: Ron Bruce on May 11, 2020. Survivors include her daughters: Beverly Telschow of Red Oak, IA and Sandy Johnson and husband Dale of Villisca, IA; son: Paul Laverty, Jr. and wife Kelley of Perry, IA; grandchildren: Tammy Odell and husband Ben of Swisher, IA; Greg Johnson and wife Nancy of St. Ansgar, IA; Chris Hilding and wife Kristie of Shenandoah, IA; Dan Johnson of Des Moines, IA; Stephanie Houston and fiancé Joe Unick of Bellevue, NE; Carleen Eveland and husband Nathan of Shenandoah, IA; and Natalie Terrill and husband Rick of Dallas, TX; great grandchildren: Audrianna and Jeff Odell; Amy Otto and husband Mike; Ryan Flugge and wife Taylor; Curtis Hilding and wife Charlotte; Jayden Eggleston and husband Jake; Sabrina, Hunter, and Mavrick Houston; and Allie and Alexis Eveland; many great great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at the Red Oak Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in the Sidney, Iowa Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 5-7 PM Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Red Oak Presbyterian Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
