Birthplace: Bern, Switzerland Resided In: Kansas City formerly Red Oak Nelly Frieda (Gerber) Hunt, age 94, died June 28, 2016 at Primrose Retirement Community, Kansas City, MO. Nelly was born June 6, 1922, in Bern, Switzerland to Alfred and Frieda (Mettler) Gerber. She grew up in Bern. After graduating from school she made apprenticeship in the fashion industry. She worked in the High Fashion Business until her marriage to Virgil Hunt. They met in Bern where Virgil was stationed after WWII. They married in February of 1946 and moved back to the United States after the birth of their daughter, Karin. They arrived in the United States June 28, 1947, and in Red Oak, July 7, 1947. They started farming in 1948, retired in 2003 and moved to town in Red Oak. Nelly was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Summit Hill Club and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Besides working hard on the farm, she sold Avon for many years. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, crocheting, reading, playing cards, playing games and traveling back to Switzerland. She loved her family and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents and husband: Virgil Hunt on April 30, 2009. Survivors include her daughters: Karin (Lanny) Cowell and Suzanne Gerner; two grandchildren: Jennifer (Jon) Richardson and Josh Catron; four great grandchildren: Elizabeth and Wyatt Richardson and Adelyn and Cael Catron; all from Kansas City, Missouri. Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 2, 2016, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m.. A private burial will be held in the Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Red Oak Public Library, Red Oak, Iowa. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel of Red Oak, Iowa is in charge of arrangements
