Birthplace: Oakland, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Neil O. Bentley, age 79, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Thursday, November 1, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Care Center. Neil Oran Bentley was born April 2, 1933 in Oakland, Iowa the son of Orris Winfield and Ruth Leone (Sowers) Bentley. He was raised in the Emerson, Iowa area graduating from Emerson High School in 1950. Neil farmed for many years all over Southwest, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Pat Hanscom on June 25, 1951 in Red Oak, Iowa. A son was born to this union: Tom. He later was united in marriage to Connie Gustafson on April 13, 1957 in Red Oak, Iowa. To this union three children were born: Darcia, Joel, and Bill. Neil was united in marriage to Shirley Fishburn on June 30, 1972 in Lawrence, Kansas. To this union a daughter was born: Stephanie. Neil loved history, especially his family history and WWII history. He enjoyed telling stories and jokes, reading Louis L'Amour books, and working crossword puzzles. Preceding him in death were his parents; brother: Dwayne Bentley; sister: Viola Starr; and brothers-in-law: Roger Starr and Max Henderson. Survivors include his children: Tom Bentley of Red Oak, IA; Darcia Ovel and husband Jeff of Chatfield, MN; Joel Kinser of Des Moines, IA; Bill Kinser and wife Julie of Des Moines, IA; and Stephanie Parsons and husband David of Loveland, CO; 16 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; sisters: Melva Henderson of Macedonia, IA and Vernelle Ellis of Lincoln, NE; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Monday, November 5, 2012 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dr. George Hooper officiating. Burial will be in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery in rural Mills County, IA. Visitation with the family will be held from 2-4 PM Sunday, November 4, 2012 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the family. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
