Nathan Ray Johnson, age 46, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska. Nathan was born August 3, 1979, in Atlantic, Iowa, the son of Larry and Diane (Bates) Johnson. Nathan was raised in southwest Iowa and was currently working for Omni Engineering. Over the years, he worked for Henningsen Construction, Grimes Asphalt & Paving Corporation, and InRoads as a field supervisor.

Nathan enjoyed many hobbies including fishing, boating, car restoration, and was a drag racing enthusiast.

Preceding him in death were his paternal grandparents: John and Edith Mae Johnson; maternal grandparents: Dean and Velma Bates; brother: Paul Johnson; and uncle: Kendal Bates. Survivors include his parents: Larry Johnson of Atlantic, IA and Diane Bates of Shenandoah, IA; children: Austin Johnson, Bodie Johnson, and Clevi Johnson all of Atlantic, IA; Paityn Johnson, Drace Johnson, Paislee Johnson and step-son Gage Imhoff all of Hamlin, IA; siblings: John Johnson and Cindy of Atlantic, IA; Cindy Skidmore of Emerson, IA; Adam Johnson and partner Kim of Sioux Falls, SD; Valerie Kalusniak and husband Kevin of Platte City, MO; Tammy Aves and husband of Atlantic, IA; and Kasey Johnson of Schleswig, IA; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and other relatives and friends.

In the midst of this terrible loss for Nathan’s family, he was able to give the gift of life to three recipients of organ transplants facilitated through Live On Nebraska.

There will be no service held at this time.

LeRette Funeral Chapel of Red Oak, Iowa, is assisting the family with cremation services.
