Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Onalaska, WI Nancy Ellen Evans Ashby, age 90, of Onalaska, Wisconsin formerly Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Friday Jan 23, 2015. Nancy was born Sept 15, 1924 in Red Oak, Iowa the daughter of Humphrey Wade and Leah Gay (Thayer) Evans. She grew up an only child and graduated from Red Oak High School. Nancy went to nursing school in Chicago during WWII. She worked in Red Oak as an RN for many years, both at the hospital and then Union Carbide. She married Ocie Moser on October 16, 1948. Of this union, Dave, Sara, and Douglas were born. They were later divorced. She married Grant Ellis Ashby on July 8, 1966 in Savannah, Missouri. They merged their two families; Mike, Dennis, Sara, Dave, Patricia, Vicki and along came Sue. They spent the next 20 years in Adel, Iowa and retired to Fairfield Bay, AR. The last 10 years, Nancy has made her home in Onalaska, WI. She was a wonderful mom, caretaker, and baker, who enjoyed reading and spending time with her grandchildren. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Grant and son, Dave. She is survived by her children: Mike (Linda) Ashby of Fripp Island, SC; Dennis (Jan) Ashby of San Jose, CA; Patricia Ashby of Bellingham, WA; Sara (Terry) Bartlett of St Paul, MN; Doug Moser of Council Bluffs, IA; Vicki Ashby of Brooklyn Park, MN; and Sue (Rob) Wilson of Galesville, WI; grandchildren: Eric, Kim, Steve, David, Jennifer, Erin, Alex, Anthony, Michelle, Ashley, Jon, Eric and Chris and 9 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Thursday, January 29, 2015 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Aquinas Catholic Schools or the Mayo Clinic Health System Franciscan Healthcare Foundation. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
