Birthplace: Houston, Missouri Resided In: Emerson, Iowa Myrtle A. Lemons, age 96, of Emerson, Iowa, passed away Thursday, August 25, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Red Oak. Myrtle A. Lemons was born April 28, 1915 in Houston, Missouri the daughter of Franklin and Nancy (Pruitt) Haney. The family moved to the Emerson, Iowa area when Myrtle was a teenager. She was united in marriage to Fred Lemons on February 16, 1935 at Champion Hill Presbyterian Church near Emerson, Iowa. Fred was a hired farm hand and Myrtle was a housekeeper for many years. Fred passed away in 1971 and Myrtle moved into Emerson. She worked at Perky's Pantry in Carson and later Mary's Restaurant and Shirley's Cafe in Emerson. Myrtle enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning, reading, working crossword puzzles, and quilting. She was a long time member of the Emerson United Methodist Church and the Jolly Janes Club and enjoyed spending time with friends at the Senior Citizens' Center. Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brother: Ray Haney; sisters: Mae Haney and Julia White; granddaughters: Laura Jones and Elizabeth Weber; and son-in-law: Leland Jones. Survivors include her children: Carolyn Jones of Wales, Iowa and Jerry Lemons and wife Vickie of Sioux City, Iowa; grandchildren: Suzane Jones and husband Michael Harvey of Carson, Iowa; Jerilyn Saluri and husband Kelly of Liberty, Missouri; and Brad Lemons and wife Kelli of New York City, New York; great grandchildren: Megan, Emily, and Allison Weber; Nathan and Paige Saluri; and Justin and Grace Lemons; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at the Emerson United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the North Grove Cemetery in rural Mills County, Iowa. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Good Samaritan Society or Iowa Hospice. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel of Red Oak is in charge of arrangements.
