Birthplace: Page County, Iowa Resided In: Orion, IL Myron L. Mc Cunn, 78, of Orion, IL, passed away May 10, 2010 at Trinity Hospital in Moline, IL. Myron was born on October 10, 1931 in Page County, Iowa the sixth child of thirteen born to John Herschel and Greta (Abbott) Mc Cunn. Myron grew up in Hawleyville, Coburg and Stennett, Iowa. He graduated valedictorian of the Stennett Class of 1949. Myron served in the United States Army from 1952 - 1954 serving in the signal corps in France. Myron graduated from Iowa State University in 1958 with a degree in Agricultural Engineering earning recognition in Tau Beta Pi. He then began working for John Deere Company. On August 13, 1960, Myron was united in marriage to Diane Turner in Elliott, Iowa. To this union, three sons were born, Gregory, Matthew and Bradley. Myron continued working for John Deere in Moline, IL, Des Moines, IA, and Horicon, WI, until making his final move with John Deere in1978 back to Moline, IL. While working for John Deere he earned a masters degree in mechanical engineering in 1968. He worked in several capacities for John Deere including product planning and advanced machine concepts. His work took him on many ventures across the globe including: Germany, Japan, England, Spain and France. In 1983, Myron began farming in Greenfield, Iowa with his brother Lowell and in Elliott, Iowa with the Turner Family. Myron retired from John Deere on March 1, 1993. Throughout the years, Myron enjoyed traveling with his family, going on numerous camping trips and "managing" his boy's lawn mowing business. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Bank Orion and was active with the Orion Athletic Booster Club, Orion Education Foundation and the Orion United Methodist Church. Myron and Diane enjoyed attending all the children and grandchildren's school, church and community activities. Survivors include his wife Diane of Orion, IL; sons, Gregory and wife Carrie of Orion, IL, Matthew and wife Kelly of Waterloo, WI and Bradley and wife Denise of Eureka, IL; 11 grandchildren; sisters, Marilyn Drennen and husband Sam of Council Bluffs, IA and Rebecca Taylor of Rockford, IL; brothers, Don McCunn and wife Ardell of Massena, IA and Carroll "Newt" McCunn and wife Carolyn of Onawa, IA. Brothers and Sisters-In-Law: Phyllis McCunn, Carolyn McCunn, and Mary Lou McCunn all of Red Oak, IA, Bette McCunn of Greenfield, IA, Darwin Larson of Glenwood, IA; Larry Turner and wife Judy, Doug Turner and wife Marla, Tracy Turner and wife Sherri all of Elliott, IA and Todd Turner and wife Terri of Wales, IA, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Myron was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers: Merle, Deane, Lyle, Lowell, and Ellis, and three sisters: Patricia Larson, Norma Peterson and Janice McCunn. Funeral service will be held 11:00 A.M., Friday, May 14, 2010 at Orion United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 13, 2010 from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. at Kirk, Huggins, & Esterdahl Funeral Home. Burial will be at Western Township Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorials are suggested to Orion United Methodist Church. Local condolences can be sent to Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak, IA. Esterdahl Funeral Home in Orion, IL is in charge of arrangements.
