Birthplace: Mills County, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Muriel Aughe, age 77, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Saturday, September 27, 2003 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. Muriel Maxine Aughe was born November 22, 1925 in Mills County, Iowa near Glenwood the daughter of Ira and Grace (Ettleman) Greenwood. She attended College Hill country school near Thurman, Iowa until the 6th grade. Then she attended junior high at Bartlett and Tabor. At the age of thirteen Muriel became a member of the Reorganized Church of the Latter Day Saints at Tabor, Iowa where she has been a member all of her life. Muriel graduated from the Glenwood High School in 1943 and taught country school for two years in Mills County, Iowa. While teaching she met a young farmer, Clarence Fay Aughe and was united in marriage April 8, 1945 in Glenwood, Iowa. To this union were born Christinia, Shirley, Beverly, Clarence Jr., Nathan, and Scott. Muriel and Clarence farmed all of their lives living in Neola, Bartlett, and Emerson before buying their own farm near Red Oak in 1968. Muriel's home was still at the farm even at the time of her death. Muriel started working outside the home after all of her kids were in school. She worked for Montgomery Ward, Village Inn, and was a hostess for Super America for over 5 years. She then worked for the Thomas D. Murphy Company & J.I.I. retiring in 1991 after 13 ½ years in the Customer Service Department. She was a member of the RLDS Church at Tabor and the Jolly Janes Club of Emerson, Iowa. Muriel and Clarence both enjoyed traveling in their motor home going to their son's home in Arizona and visiting friends and relatives all over the states. Muriel was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Clarence Aughe on May 5, 1998; and 2 brothers: Burwyn Dale Greenwood and Daryl David Greenwood, both veterans. Survivors include her 3 daughters: Christinia Palser and husband Darrel of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Shirley Sinnott and husband Daniel of Omaha, Nebraska; and Beverly Dickinson and husband Ron of Council Bluffs, Iowa; 3 sons: Clarence Aughe, Jr. and wife Ruth of Villisca, Iowa; Nathan Aughe and wife Julia of Phoenix, Arizona; and Scott Aughe of Red Oak, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 3 sisters: Vernie Brake of Glenwood, Iowa; Elnora McPherron and husband Neil of Glenwood, Iowa; and Leora Aughe of Council Bluffs, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday, September 30, 2003 at the Nelson Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. David Erickson officiating. Burial will be in the Glenwood, Iowa Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Monday, September 29, 2003 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
