Obituary

Birthplace: Exira, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Mildred Virginia Stoldorf, age 84, of Red Oak, Iowa died on Sunday, September 10, 2006 at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, NE after a brief illness. She was born March 2, 1922 to Clara (Hansen) and Nels Peter Esbeck in Exira, Iowa. Mildred married Melvin Charles Stoldorf on March 15, 1946 in Shenandoah, Iowa. She grew up on farms east of Exira and east of Kimballton. After her marriage to Melvin, they moved to Essex, Iowa where they ran the Falk Sisters Dairy, and then they moved to a farm southeast of Essex where a tornado destroyed their farmstead in June 1949, and injured both Melvin and Mildred and their young daughter, Marilyn. After the tornado, they moved to rural Red Oak, later to a farm north of Essex, and finally to their farm southeast of Red Oak where they lived and farmed for over forty-five years. Mildred was very involved in the farming and hog operation, but was especially interested in her flock of chickens, numbering upwards of 2000. She was kindly known as the "egg lady" for delivering her fresh eggs for many years. Mildred had been active in various ladies' groups, churches, and school organizations. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Melvin Stoldorf on November 25, 1988, her brother-in-law, Leonard Nelson, her sister-in-law, Martha Bierman, and her nephew, Laverne Nelson. She is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Brown and husband, Jesse W. Brown Jr. of Irvington, Nebraska, and Margaret Stoldorf of Red Oak, Iowa, two grandchildren, Lynda Brown Volcheck, and Scott Allen Brown, one great-granddaughter, Jamie Lynn Volcheck all of Omaha, Nebraska, a sister, Dorothy Nelson of Elkhorn, Iowa, a brother, Robert Esbeck and wife Patricia of Elkhorn, Iowa, and many cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Thursday, September 14, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Nancy Schultz officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Wednesday, September 13, 2006 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
