Birthplace: Cumberland, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Mildred Long, age 95, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Mildred Long was born April 20, 1908 in Cumberland, Iowa the daughter of Tom and Sylvia (Parker) Purdy. The family moved to Red Oak when Mildred was four years old. She attended grade school in Red Oak and graduated from Red Oak High School. Mildred was united in marriage to Clarence Long on February 14, 1929 in Corning, Iowa. They farmed northwest of Red Oak until moving into Red Oak in 1963. She was a member of the Hawthorne United Methodist Church, the Holiday National Camping Club, and the Waubonsie #213 Camping Club. Clarence and Mildred spent 25 winters in Mesa, Arizona enjoying the sunshine and lots of friends. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Clarence Long on September 17, 1992; and son: Dwaine Long on December 13, 2003. Survivors include her son: Ron Long of Osage Beach, Missouri; daughter-in-law: Helen Long of Emerson, Iowa; grandchildren: Dale Long and his wife Kim of Omaha, Nebraska; Sue Wagaman and her husband Jerry of Emerson, Iowa; Cheri Pullman and her husband Keith of Corrales, New Mexico; and Rob Long and his wife Gina of Creston, Iowa; great grandchildren: Kyle Long and his wife Jisella of Omaha, Nebraska; J.D. Long of Omaha, Nebraska; Danielle and Lindsey Wagaman of Emerson, Iowa; Sydney, Keely, and Beau Pullman all of Corrales, New Mexico; and Tyler, Cody, and Samantha Long of Creston, Iowa; sister-in-law: Blanche Brown of Red Oak, Iowa; friend: Susan Long of Lubbock, Texas; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, February 7, 2004 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Craig Larsen officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Friday, February 6, 2004 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Hawthorne United Methodist Church or the Red Oak Rescue Unit. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
