Michael Alan Skahill, 74, of Villisca, Iowa, passed away Monday, September 7, 2026, at the Villisca Good Samaritan Society. He was born April 18, 1952, in Corning, Iowa, to Thomas “Gerald” and Joyce (Bateman) Skahill. Raised near Villisca, Michael graduated from Villisca High School with the Class of 1970. He worked for many years as a surveyor for the Iowa Department of Transportation and became disabled following an accident in 1982. Over the years, he lived in several places, including New Hope Village, Taylor Ridge Estates, Lenox Care Center, and, since October 2010, the Villisca Good Samaritan Society. Michael was cheerful, witty, and known for his great sense of humor. A trivia whiz, he enjoyed fast cars, racing, Mardi Gras, the color purple, music, pepperoni pizza, and pineapple malts. He was also a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Dallas Cowboys. Michael was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Villisca.
Preceding him in death were his parents; sister-in-law: Liz Skahill; and brother-in-law: Don Chapman. Survivors include his siblings: Jerry Skahill and wife Mary of Ames, Iowa; Judy Casey and husband Duane of Villisca, Iowa; Nancy Chapman of Lenox, Iowa; Janet Scholey and husband Fred of Villisca, Iowa; Susan Lindberg and husband David of Urbandale, Iowa; Mark Skahill and wife Alyson of West Des Moines, Iowa; David Skahill of Villisca, Iowa; and Donna Robinson and husband Jim of Villisca, Iowa; 24 nieces and nephews; many great nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends including his special family at Villisca Good Samaritan Society.
Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM Monday, September 14, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Villisca. Burial will be in the Arlington Cemetery near Villisca, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4-6 PM Sunday, September 13, 2026, at the LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak, Iowa. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation.
