Birthplace: Council Bluffs, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Michael F. "Mick" Maher, age 67, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Friday, February 19, 2010 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Michael Francis "Mick" Maher was born March 28, 1942 in Council Bluffs, Iowa the son of Francis L. and Wilma Rose (Coy) Maher. He was raised on a farm north of Imogene and attended St. Patrick's School in Imogene. He was united in marriage to Mary Jo Hinkle in 1965 and to this union four children were born. He later was united in marriage to Margaret Ann "Maggie" Waters in 1987. Mick started his working career in farming and later operated heavy equipment for Leonard Nelson, Don Cashatt, and Homer Focht. He retired after many years of working for the Montgomery County Roads Department. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church, Knights of Columbus, and the Red Oak Elks Lodge. Preceding him in death was his father; brothers: Roger and Matthew Maher; and sister: Mary Beth Morton and her husband Buck. Survivors include: Margaret Maher of Red Oak, Iowa; mother: Wilma Maher of Shenandoah, Iowa; children: Michelle Faxon and husband Paul of Emerson, Iowa; Lisa Weak and husband Roger of Hastings, Iowa; Tony Maher of Carson, Iowa; and Shari Chleborad and husband Dave of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren: Brooke and Bailey Faxon; Courtney and Brianna Weak; and Coy and Frannee Jo Maher; sisters and brothers: Patricia Connelly of San Diego, California; Robert Maher and wife Jeanne of Russellville, Missouri; William Maher and Celeste of Treynor, Iowa; Duane Maher and wife Mary of Omaha, Nebraska; Denise Donnelly and husband Bob of Redmond, Oregon; Jerry Maher and wife Donna of Shenandoah, Iowa; Douglas Maher and wife Cindi of Poway, California; Sandra Bugg and husband Darwin of Farragut, Iowa; and David Maher of Farragut, Iowa; sister-in-law: Betty Jo Maher of Cotton, Minnesota; many nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 AM Monday, February 22, 2010 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Imogene, Iowa with Father Ken Gross, celebrant. Burial will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery at Imogene. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Sunday, February 21, 2010 at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak with Recitation of the Rosary to be held at 7:45 PM. There will also be a visitation at the church starting at 8 AM on the day of the funeral. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, St. Patrick's Catholic Church, or St. Patrick's Catholic Church Altar Society. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
