Michael James "Mike" Askey, age 55, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Monday, March 14, 2022, at University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Mike was born July 28, 1966, in Red Oak, Iowa, the son of James and Donna (Foes) Askey. He was raised on a farm south of Stanton, Iowa, and graduated from Stanton High School in 1984. The family moved to Red Oak shortly after Mike's graduation. Over the years, Mike worked for ROMech, Lloyd, Inc., and was currently employed at his dream job at Southwest Regional Water District in Clarinda, Iowa. He was recently promoted to operations manager. Mike was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan and Chicago Bears fan. He enjoyed hunting deer, fishing, telling jokes, and spending time with his family, especially watching Disney movies with his granddaughters.
Mike married the love of his life, Linda Anderson, on February 2, 2001, and together they raised two amazing children, Krystin Anne and Dylan Harry. Their beautiful family has grown to include Krystin's husband, Jon Skobis, two granddaughters, Abigail Louise and Alexis Marie Skobis, and Dylan's girlfriend, Lexie Wingfield. Also surviving are his siblings: Pam Miller and Charles Shrum; and many other relatives and friends including a cousin, Randy Askey, whom he considered a brother.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM Saturday, March 19, 2022, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery at Nyman, Iowa. There will be open visitation on Friday, March 18, 2022, with family greeting friends from 6-7 PM at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the family.
