Obituary

Birthplace: Rural Griswold, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Mervin Keeton, age 61, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Sunday, December 16, 2001 at his residence after a sudden illness. Mervin Ralph Keeton was born June 17, 1940 on a farm near Griswold, Iowa the son of Ralph and Edna (Hultquist) Keeton. He graduated from the Griswold High School in 1958. Mervin worked with the building of the Elliott Elementary School Building before entering the Military in 1958. He served in the Navy until 1962. On May 11, 1962 Mervin was united in marriage to Kay Allen. He worked for the Elliott Motor Company until going to work at the Union Carbide where he worked for 30 years retiring when the plant was closed. Most currently Mervin was working for Glacier/Daido in Atlantic, Iowa. He was also a former member of the Elliott Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors include his son: Rick Keeton of Shenandoah, Iowa; grandson: Bob Keeton of Shenandoah, Iowa; 3 granddaughters: Meagan & Jessica Keeton of Farragut, Iowa; and Rachel Davis of Shenandoah, Iowa; 2 great grandsons: Jesse and Jacob Davis of Shenandoah, Iowa; Aunt: Mabel Thomspon of Brayton, Iowa; cousins: Roger, Maynard, and Duane Lockhart; and Dee Tye; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Thursday, December 20, 2001 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Kirk Dudley officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery in Elliott, Iowa. Visitation will be from 6:30-8:30 PM Wednesday, December 19, 2001 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. A memorial fund is being established. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
