Birthplace: Montgomery County, Iowa Resided In: Villisca, Iowa Merrill V. "Red" Erickson, age 77, of Villisca, Iowa formerly of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Monday, December 31, 2007 at the Villisca Good Samaritan Center. Merrill Vance "Red" Erickson was born September 23, 1930 in Montgomery County, Iowa the son of Vance and Signa (Lonn) Erickson. He was raised in Montgomery County graduating from Stennett High School in 1948. As a young man he raised hogs on the family farm and later worked for the elevator in Stennett. Merrill was a people person, always loving to visit with everyone. He enjoyed going for car rides, playing pitch, working word puzzles, fishing, watching western movies, and loved baseball. For the past several years Merrill has been a resident of the Villisca Good Samaritan Care Center. He was united in marriage to Louise Richie on January 16, 2005 in Villisca. Survivors include his wife: Louise Erickson of Villisca, Iowa; sister: Joan Westerlund and husband Gene of Villisca, Iowa; step-brother: Clyde Jones and wife Naomi of Red Oak, Iowa; aunt: Ruby Black of Red Oak, Iowa; step-son: William Keesler and wife Roxanne of Des Moines, Iowa; step-grandchildren: Ryan Conard; Bert Conard; and Pearl Conard all of Des Moines, Iowa; 9 step-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, January 5, 2008 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Kevin Skipworth officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. There will be open visitation at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak. Memorials are suggested to the Villisca Good Samaritan Center Activity Fund or the Villisca Public Library. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
