Birthplace: Coburg, Iowa Resided In: Coin, Iowa Merrill Edward Burr, age 89, of Coin, Iowa, passed away Sunday, June 11, 2017 at the Elm Heights Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa. Merrill was born October 7, 1927 in Coburg, Iowa the son of Leonard and Esther (Shodeen) Burr. He graduated from Coburg High School. Merrill was united in marriage to Dorothy and one son Danny was born. He later married Joyce Davis and Sandi and Eddie were born to this union. He later married Norma McVey who preceded him in death. He was a carpenter and drove a school bus for many years. Merrill lived in Coburg, Red Oak, and Norwich for many years before moving to Coin, Iowa. Merrill was a talented musician who played the Upright Doghouse Bass. He played with the Montgomery Mountain Boys for many years and other famous artists. He also served in the Iowa National Guard for several years. Preceding him in death were his parents; soul mate: Norma Burr; grandchild: CJ Almquist; step-grandchild: Malia Stubbs; step-children: Roger Olson and Jennie Geasland. sisters: Charlotte Lamphere, Eilene Lundgren; and Lois Hill; and his faithful dog: "Scrappy". Survivors include his children: Sandi Kuester of Shenandoah, IA and Eddie Burr of Florence, AZ; step-children: John "Steve" Stevens and wife Shelly of Villisca, IA; Carroll Olson of Baxter, IA; Brenda Hall and husband Robert of Ellenwood, KS; Larry Olson of Great Bend, KS; Kathy Johnson and husband Chopper of Great Bend, KS; Toni Sparr of Coin, IA; Mickie Jones of Coin, IA; and Richard Stubbs of Coin, IA; many grandchildren including Nicole Hutchinson and fiance Steven Cole of Shenandoah, IA; many great grandchildren including: Jersey Fahey, Ryder Hutchinson; Spencer Edward Hutchinson; Livi Hutchinson, Hannah Sparr, and Emily Stevens; and many other relatives and friends. A celebration of life service will be held 1 PM Saturday, July 15, 2017 at the Coin Community Center. Burial of the cremated remains will be held at a later date at Evergreen Cemetery. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with cremation services.
