Merle Woods, 89, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2023 at Tabor Manor Care Center in Tabor, IA.
Merle was born October 26, 1933 in Imogene, IA to Eugene and Mable Woods. He and his twin brother Earl were the youngest of 9 children.
He joined the Navy in 1954 and was Air Traffic Controlman, AC2, when he left the Navy. He then joined the Army National Guard and served until he retired as Sergeant 1st Class.
He worked for several years at Eaton's in Shenandoah, until he retired early in 1996 due to an illness.
In his spare time, he enjoyed being a member of the Eagles club in Shenandoah for many years, enjoyed fishing and watching sports, especially the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs.
Merle is survived by, two daughters, Tina Sunday and husband Greg of Spencer, IA, and Teresa Sapp and husband Joe of Omaha, NE, one son, Chris Woods of Shenandoah, IA, stepdaughters, Michelle Chapman and husband Timm of Thurman, IA, and Sharon Rice and husband Mark of Loveland, CO, step-sons, Jon Smith and wife Shannon of Richmond, MO, and Jeff Smith of Plainfield, IL, many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kay, his parents, Eugene and Mable Woods, brothers, Charles, Earl, Albert, John, Lester, Allen and Edward, sisters, Elizabeth and Ida, and son, Douglas Eugene Woods.
Please join the families of twin brothers, Earl and Merle Woods, for a graveside memorial service and celebration of life on Saturday, May 13th at 11:00 a.m. at Monroe Township Cemetery in Imogene, IA. The Eagles Club in Shenandoah is providing lunch immediately following the service. They entered this world together and shall be laid to rest together.
Peterson Mortuary of Glenwood, Iowa, and Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel of Red Oak, Iowa, are assisting the family with arrangements.
