Birthplace: Ontonagon, MI Resided In: Red Oak, IA Maxine Marie Wood, age 90, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Maxine was born June 25, 1924 in Ontonagon, Michigan the daughter of Kenneth and Ruth (McCory) Turney. She was raised in Ontonagon graduating from Ontonagon High School in 1942. After high school the family moved to Washington state. During WWII, Maxine served in the Women's Army Corps in California where she worked in the Boeing Plant. She later went back to Washington where she also worked for Boeing. Maxine was united in marriage to Jim Wood on September 16, 1949 in Tacoma, Washington. They lived many different places throughout the United States until moving to the Omaha area in the 1950's. In retirement, they spent time in Texas before moving to Red Oak in 2002. Maxine was a bookkeeper for many years. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church where she served in the Assembly, taught Sunday school, and served as a deacon and elder. Maxine enjoyed and read her bible every day. She also enjoyed bowling, singing, dancing, knitting, crocheting, and baking. Preceding her in death were her parents and brothers: Donald and William Turney. Survivors include her husband: Jim Wood of Red Oak, IA; children: Janet Hansen and husband Rich of Red Oak, IA; Susan Swan and husband Rich of Omaha, NE; and Michael Wood and wife Brenda of Wimberly, TX; grandchildren: Aaron Hansen and wife Elise of Red Oak, IA; Jeff Swan and fiance Julie of Omaha, NE; Julie Miers and husband Corey of Omaha, NE; Kevin Swan of Omaha, NE; and Christopher Wood and wife Heather of Wimberly, TX; great grandchildren: Christian Swan, Faith Swan, Logan Miers, Aaliyah Swan, Piper Miers, and Sophie Hansen; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. There will be private family service with burial to be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
