Birthplace: Montgomery County, Iowa Resided In: Thornton, CO formerly Elliott, IA Verle "Maxine" Norris was born February 13, 1918 in Montgomery County, Iowa. She was the oldest of 15 children born to Roswell "Jim" & Laura (Rush) White. She passed away on August 24, 2010 at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Thornton, Colorado at the age of 92 years. Maxine grew up around the Elliott area and attended and graduated from Stennett, Iowa High School. On March 10, 1937, she was united in marriage to Oklin "Lyle" Norris. This union was blessed with three children. Maxine was a homemaker most of her life but did work at the Elliott Drug Store for several years and for Thomas D. Murphy Calendar Factory for approximately 12 years, retiring in 1972. She was a member of the ONO Ladies Club for many years, loved taking road trips all over the United States, and especially loved going to Arizona during the winter months. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, and loved being a mother, grandmother and was devoted to her husband of 73 years. She has provided family and friends memories to last a life time. On October 13, 2004, she and her husband moved to Thornton, Colorado. For the remainder of her life, she lived close to her daughter, son in law and many attentive grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; parent's in laws; sisters: Linda Foote, Ruth Scheel, and Lorraine Wendt; brothers: Robert White & Leo White; brothers in law: Paul Stephens, Calvin Coleman, Vivian (Dick) Norris, Lowell McCunn, and Wilbur Wendt; sister in law: Maxine Coleman; daughter: Anna Mae Keast; and husband: Lyle Norris who passed away on May 22, 2010. Maxine is survived by her children: Frank Norris and his wife Lena of Sheffield, Iowa and Janet Ginther and her husband Gene of Thornton, Colorado; son in law: Darrell Keast of Apache Junction, Arizona; siblings: Bettie McCunn of Greenfield, IA; Billie White and friend Julia McGrew of Glenwood, IA; Pat Williams and husband Jack of Glenwood, IA; Chuck White and wife Denise of Coin, IA; Wayne White and wife Ann of Elkhorn, IA; Mary Jones and husband Bob of Red Oak, IA; John White of Council Bluffs, IA; Jim White and wife Shirley of Omaha, NE; and Norma Schultz and husband Gordon of Grand Island, NE; sisters-in-law: Leah White of Red Oak, IA and Sally White of Omaha, NE; brother-in-law: Doug Foote of Red Oak, IA; 11 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren along with many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday, September 4, 2010 at the Elliott United Methodist Church with Pastor Terry McClain officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Friday, September 3, 2010 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
