Birthplace: Wales, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Maxine Marsden, age 99, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Thursday, January 16, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Society. Maxine was born July 18, 1914 in Wales, Iowa the daughter of Clem and Viola (Wolford) Woods. She graduated from the Wales High School and was united in marriage to Earl Marsden on October 3, 1934 in Red Oak, Iowa. They moved to California from 1942 until 1946 when they moved back to Red Oak to begin farming. Maxine was a homemaker but also worked outside the home when the children were older. She worked at the hospital, Hy Klas Grocery and Earl May Seed and Nursery. Earl and Maxine moved into Red Oak in 1989. Maxine was the oldest member of the Stratton United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years and was always a very active member. She was a member of the SOS Club, enjoyed tending her flowers, watching birds, playing cards, and was a wonderful cook. Her family was always the joy in her life. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband: Earl Marsden on April 11, 2006; brothers: Dick and Perry Woods; sister: Ada Williams; and grandson: Bradley Richard Marsden. Survivors include her children: Shirley Chesnut and husband Don of Adair, IA; Clem Marsden and wife Kay and Dick Marsden and wife Jeanie of Red Oak, IA; grandchildren: Eddie Chesnut and wife Renae of Johnston, IA; Evan Chesnut and wife Sharon of Shell Rock, IA; Annette Brannen and husband Joe of Grimes, IA; Mike Marsden and wife Kim, Kent Marsden and wife Lea, Kim Plambeck and husband Doug, and Debbie Graber and husband Mark all of Red Oak, IA; and Rod Marsden and wife Jill of Norfolk, NE; 21 great grandchildren; sisters: Billie Jones of Red Oak, IA; Mary Galitz of Oakland, IA; Lois Sellers Johnson of Red Oak, IA; Mabel McKelvey and husband Bill of Oklahoma City, OK; and JoAnn Orr of Nebraska City, NE; sister-in-law: Phyllis Woods of Red Oak, IA; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Monday, January 20, 2014 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Stratton United Methodist Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
