Obituary

Birthplace: Rural Elliott, Iowa Resided In: Rural Red Oak, Iowa Mavis C. Moree, age 90, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away, Thursday, August 15, 2013 at the Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. Mavis Charlene Moree was born January 26, 1923 near Elliott, Iowa the daughter of Charles and Clara (Ellis) Reed. She graduated from Elliott High School and attended Red Oak Junior College where she received her teaching certificate. Mavis taught school for one year before going to work for the telephone company. For a short period of time she worked at the phone company in California before moving back to Montgomery County. Mavis was united in marriage to Raymond Moree on May 1, 1946 at her family home. They farmed and lived on the same homestead since 1951. Over the years, Mavis worked at the hospital, Dr. Thompson's and Dr. Bastron's office and Medicare Equipment Company. She was a member of Elliott Church of Christ and at one time was active in the Wales Ladies Aid. She and Raymond enjoyed activities at the Red Oak Elks Lodge where Raymond was a member, spent many hours boating and camping, and treasured the time they spent with the grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mavis was a wonderful cook, loved to sew, and especially enjoyed visiting with family and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents; brothers: Ellis Reed and Bill Reed; and sister: Mildred Babcock. Survivors include her husband: Raymond Moree of Red Oak, IA; daughter: Sharon Gettler and husband Dean of Emerson, IA; grandchildren: Travis Gettler and wife Naomi and Nicholas Gettler of Red Oak, IA; Caleb Gettler and wife Jenny of Stanton, IA; and Rebekah Gettler and fiancé Caleb Smith of Atlantic, IA; great grandchildren: Weston, Paisley, Evan, Addelyn, and Owen Gettler; brother-in-law: Denver Moree of Atlantic, IA; and sister-in-law: Ramona Reed of Alpharetta, GA; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Monday, August 19, 2013 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jerome Wagoner officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 5:30 - 7 PM Sunday, August 18, 2013 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the "Books on Tape" through the Iowa Library For The Blind And Physically Handicapped. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
