Matthew Steven Oleen

Tech Sergeant, Ohio Air National Guard

Matthew Steven Oleen, 45, of Mansfield, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at his parents’ home in Red Oak, Iowa.

Matt was a lifelong resident of Mansfield and a 1999 graduate of Ontario High School. After high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served six years on active duty before continuing his career in the Ohio Air National Guard. He retired in 2024 as a Tech Sergeant after 24 years of honorable service. He was a dedicated crew chief on F-16 Fighting Falcons and took deep pride in the aircraft he maintained and the airmen he served beside. His service included two tours in Iraq, one tour in Afghanistan, and numerous other deployments.

Away from the flight line, Matt enjoyed building computers and gaming. He had a quiet, steady way about him and a particular devotion to his cat, Oliver, who was his constant companion.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Marion and Lawrence Davis and Edith and Robert Oleen.

Surviving him are his loving parents, Steve and Diana Oleen; his sister and brother-in-law, Sarah and Jason Tillman; his niece and nephew, Shenandoah and Lincoln Tillman; and his beloved cat, Oliver.

Matt will be honored privately by his family in Red Oak, Iowa and interred at the Omaha National Cemetery.
