Matthew Paul Newsome, age 52, of Emerson, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at his home. Matthew was born November 28, 1970, in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Carl and Suzanne (Thomsen) Newsome. He attended school in Omaha, later attended UTI, and served in the United States Army for a short time. Over the years, he worked for ASARCO and Union Pacific Railroad. He moved to Red Oak many years ago and lived the past 12 years in Emerson, Iowa. Matthew loved listening to music, creating music on his computer, playing the piano, and writing music.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother: Andrew Newsome. Survivors include his son: Gavin Newsome of Tishomingo, OK; parents: Carl and Suzanne Newsome of Red Oak, IA; sister: Jennifer Newsome of Omaha, NE; nephews: Taylor Newsome and wife Heather of Omaha, Nebraska and their son: Hudson and Elliott Hoffman of Omaha, NE; and many other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life service will be held 11 AM Thursday, October 5, 2023, at the Red Oak Presbyterian Church with lunch and fellowship to follow the service. Memorials may be directed to Gavin Newsome, Matthew's son, for his education expenses.
