Birthplace: Sidney, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Mary L. Woods, age 82, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Sunday March 15, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Care Center. Mary Louise Woods was born May 20, 1926 in Sidney, Iowa the daughter of Cecil and Freda Cleota (McCormick) Grape. She graduated from Sidney High School in 1943 and took her normal training. She taught country school south of Shenandoah, Iowa. During this time she bought her first car. Mary was united in marriage to Syke R. Woods on November 30, 1943 in Hiawatha, Kansas. She worked at the Union Carbide Battery Company until 1954. She worked for the Thomas D. Murphy Company retiring after 38 years of service. Mary then helped take care of elderly folks in their homes. Mary was a member of the First United Methodist Church, loved to cook and one of her specialties was her homemade rolls. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband: Syke Woods on September 13, 1993; and son: Don Woods. Survivors include her sons: James Woods of Sidney, Iowa; Robert Woods of Red Oak, Iowa; and Norman Woods of Fremont, Nebraska; daughter-in-law: Mary Woods of New Market, Iowa; grandchildren: Jeff Woods of Atlanta, Georgia; Stacey Woods of Peoria, Arizona; Heidi Digiacomo of Red Oak, Iowa; Margo Woods of Iowa City, Iowa; Robert Woods of Red Oak, Iowa; Hilary Keatts of Manhattan, Kansas; Jason Woods of Red Oak, Iowa; and Justin Woods of Ohio; step grandchild: Joshua Osheim of Red Oak, Iowa; great grandchildren: Austin Woods and Sydney Digiacomo; sister: Betty Otte of Red Oak, Iowa; brother: Gary Grape and wife Sandy of Spokane, Washington; and many other relatives and friends. Graveside funeral services will be held 11 AM Friday, March 20, 2009 at the Sidney, Iowa Cemetery with Rev. Fred Pilecki officiating. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Thursday, March 19, 2009 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Family and friends will gather at 9:30 AM on Friday at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel to go to the cemetery in procession. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
