Birthplace: Atlantic, Iowa Resided In: Cedar Falls, IA formerly of Red Oak Mary Wittwer, age 76 of Cedar Falls, Iowa, formerly of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Sunday August 3, 2003 at the University of Iowa Medical Center in Iowa City, Iowa. Mary was born June 14, 1927 in Atlantic, Iowa to Ray and Glee Olds Wells. She attended schools in the Atlantic and Red Oak, Iowa. On January 21, 1946, she was united in marriage to Donald C. Wittwer in Hiawatha, Kansas. They spent over 50 years in Red Oak, Iowa before relocating to Texas for seven years. Her final year was spent in Iowa, the state that she loved. During many years of her work life, she was employed at F.W. Woolworth Co., Ben Franklin and Gibson's in Red Oak. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was a volunteer at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed her friends in TOPS and the morning McDonald Coffee Klatches. Survivors include: daughter: Donna Ross and her husband Clyde of Allen, Texas; sons: Melvin Wittwer and his wife Elizabeth of Waterloo, Iowa; and Raymond Wittwer and his wife Jelena of Coos Bay, Oregon; 6 grandchildren: Ryan Ross and his wife Shun of Lancaster, Texas; Sheila Walk and her husband Steven of Chesterfield, Missouri; Jeffrey Wittwer of Des Moines, Iowa; Mikaela Backinski and her husband Scott of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Danielle Wittwer of Coos Bay, Oregon; and Jonathan Wittwer of Coos Bay, Oregon; 3 great grandchildren; Riley Backinski, Ryan Ross II, and Alex Walk; brothers: Robert Wells of Lodi, California and Jack Wells of Anniston, Alabama: sister; Marie Bond of Red Oak, Iowa She was preceded in death by Donald, her beloved husband of 56 years, her parents, brother Ray Wells and sister Norma Nickols. Funeral services will be held 10 A.M., Wednesday, August 6, 2003 at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Robert Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Tuesday, August 5, 2003 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
