Birthplace: Lamonte, Missouri Resided In: Geneva, Nebraska formerly of Red Oak, IA Mary E. Johnson, age 78, of Geneva, Nebraska formerly of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2006 at the Heritage Crossing Nursing Home in Geneva, Nebraska. Mary Ellen Johnson was born October 1, 1928 in Lamonte, Missouri the daughter of Arthur Leonard and Lola (Henderson) Miller. The family moved to Iowa when Mary was 13 years old. She attended school at Stennett, Iowa graduating in 1946. Mary was united in marriage to Frank Wayne Johnson of Emerson, Iowa on November 24, 1947 in Red Oak, Iowa. They were involved in the restaurant business for many years, starting with the Devonshire in Atlantic, Iowa and later the Shamrock Café located near their home in Lorah, Iowa. Mary and Frank retired to Texas due to Frank's failing health and later returned to her hometown of Red Oak. Mary spent the next several years taking care of her parents and working for Dr. Rodmond Smith. Mary moved to Geneva, Nebraska in 2004. She was a devoted Mother to the joys of her life, Susan and Rick. She also held a special place in her heart for her three granddaughters, Heather, Robyn, and Jaclyn. A passion of Mary's was cooking for her friends and family, who were always anxious to try one of her many new recipes. Whenever guests came to Mary's home they would be sure to be treated with a variety of delicious foods. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Frank Wayne Johnson on February 22, 1987; and her brothers: Burley Miller and Jake Miller. Survivors include her daughter: Susan Johnson of Geneva, Nebraska; son: Rick Johnson and wife Corrine of Atlantic, Iowa; three granddaughters: Heather Lund and husband Nyle of Anita, Iowa; Robyn Sorensen of Geneva, Nebraska; and Jaclyn Guttenfelder of Little Rock, Arkansas; great grandchildren: Kaleb Lund and Isabelle Lund of Anita, Iowa; and Lucas Sorensen and Donald Sorensen of Geneva, Nebraska; brother: Bill Miller and wife Marlene of Rock Valley, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends. Graveside memorial services will be held 1 PM Friday, December 29, 2006 at the Emerson Cemetery at Emerson, Iowa. Burial of cremated remains will take place in the Emerson Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
