Birthplace: Rural Stanton, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Mary Elizabeth Houser, age 93, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2014 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Mary was born February 5, 1920 near Stanton, Iowa the daughter of Everett and Alma (Johnson) Bishop. She attended country school through the eighth grade. Mary's father passed away in 1934 and in 1936 she and her mother moved to Red Oak where Mary graduated in 1937. She went to work for Blue Distributing Company as a secretary working for 10 years before she was united in marriage to Guy Houser on January 22, 1947 in Troy, Kansas. They farmed for forty years until the time of Guy's death in 1987 at which time Mary moved back to Red Oak. She lived in her own home until 2006 when she moved to Good Samaritan Society. Mary always enjoyed gardening, helping with the livestock, raising chickens, fishing, playing cards, and having coffee with friends. She was also a long time member of Our Savior Lutheran Church. Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband. Survivors include many cousins, nieces, and nephews and other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Monday, January 27, 2014 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Good Samaritan Society or the Diabetes Foundation. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
