Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Mary Louise Franks, age 78, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Mary was born September 21, 1943, in Red Oak, Iowa, the daughter of Howard Lee and Clara Eva (Lewis) Dodd. She lived in Red Oak until she was 10 years old. The family then moved to Creston, Iowa, where she attended school. She married and had two children: Randy and Lisa. Mary was then united in marriage to Levi "JR" Franks in 1970 and he adopted the children. They later had a daughter: Christy. Mary worked for Union Carbide before marrying JR. She then worked for 26 years at the Red Cross Drug Store as a Pharmacy Technician and in the photo department. When Red Cross sold, she worked for HyVee Pharmacy where she retired. Mary had many hobbies including camping, gardening, fishing, cooking, especially with the grandkids, doing crafts, playing Nintendo, and pulling practical jokes. Her favorite pastime was being with her family including her grandchildren whom she loved dearly. Preceding her in death were her parents and great granddaughter: Amelia. Survivors include her husband JR Franks of Red Oak; children: Randy "Maynard" Franks and wife Jane of Red Oak, Lisa Bruce and husband Todd of Red Oak; and Christy Cruth and husband Shane of Cullowhee, NC; grandchildren: Glenna Hummel and husband Tony of Red Oak; Corey Franks and wife Kari of Neola, IA; David Franks and wife Morgan of Omaha, NE; Lydia Douthit and Trisha Walker of Council Bluffs, IA; Eliot Douthit and Tiffany LaMear of Council Bluffs, IA; Naela Thornton and Nathan Block of Greenfield, IA; and Kerrigan Thornton of Boone, IA; great grandchildren: Geoff, Jake, Ryan, Amy, Jake, Alex, Dominic, Logan, Haedyn, Gabriella, Leelan, Makinzye, Monroe, and Dallas; 13 great great grandchildren; sister: Sandra Kessler and husband Joe of Creston, IA; sisters-in-law: Bonnie Franks of Essex, IA and Berna Rogers of Vancouver, WA; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. A celebration of life service will be held 11 AM Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at the First Christian Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
