Birthplace: Rural Grant, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Mary Kathlene "Katie" Fleagle, age 85, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Friday, April 8, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Care Center. Mary Kathlene "Katie" Fleagle was born July 9, 1925 near Grant, Iowa the daughter of Earl and Mary (Bourn) Whipple. The family lived in Missouri and Arkansas for a period of time, but Katie spent most of her life in the Red Oak area. She was united in marriage to Elmer Fleagle on March 18, 1945 in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa and four children were born to this union: Elmer, Candy, Teresa, and Al. In her later working years, Katie was an Aide with the Montgomery County Public Health Nurses. She attended Grace Baptist Church and was a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed living at Acorn Acres Retirement Community where she helped making dolls to give away. She was quite talented at crocheting and tatting. Katie was known for her love of children. Preceding her in death were her parents; brothers: Earl, Red, and Harry Whipple; sister: Mabel Heitmier; and granddaughter: Connie Sue Adams. Survivors include her children: Elmer Fleagle of Grimes, IA; Candy Janousek and husband Dan of Omaha, NE; Teresa Adams of Montgomery, AL; and Al Fleagle and wife Yetty of Hot Springs, AR; grandchildren: Matthew Fleagle of Colorado Springs, CO; Edward Adams of Millbrook, AL; Matthew Denison of Hot Springs, AR; Andrew Denison of Hot Springs, AR; Lisa Logue and husband Vincent of Omaha, NE; and Dan Janousek, Jr. and wife Rene of Omaha, NE; great grandchildren: Heaven Logue of Omaha, NE; and Joey Janousek of Omaha, NE; sisters: Frances Wells of Wichita, KS and Dorothy Anderson of Davenport, IA; brother: James Whipple and wife Evelyn of Clarinda, IA; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Monday, April 11, 2011 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Pastor Gary Walters officiating. Burial will be in the Braddyville, Iowa Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 2-4 PM Sunday, April 10, 2011 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
