Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Scottsdale, AZ and Red Oak, IA Mary Jo Van Druff, age 82, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away on Monday, March 31, 2003 in Scottsdale, Arizona as a result of a stroke. Mary Josephine Van Druff was born January 24, 1921 in Red Oak, Iowa, the daughter of Malcolm and Anna (Cochrane) Lomas. Mary Jo grew up and lived her entire life in Red Oak graduating from Red Oak High School in 1938. She attended Scripps College in Pomona, California, and the University of Colorado where she was a member of Delta Gamma and graduated from the University of Washington in 1943. Upon returning to Red Oak in 1945, she became active in P.E.O., the United Methodist Church and the Republican Party. She served as secretary on the board of the Thos. D. Murphy Co. for many years and the legacy of the family business was an important part of her life. She was also a member of the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation. Upon her husband's retirement from the Murphy Co. Mary Jo and Bruce enjoyed spending their winters in Scottsdale, Arizona. She was a lady of grace and dignity. She loved her family, her friends and her flowers. She will be truly missed. Mary Jo is survived by her husband of 61 years, Bruce Van Druff of Red Oak, Iowa. She was the mother of three children, Anne Halvin of Stuart, Florida; Cindy Krausgrill of Clayton, California and Peter Van Druff of Red Oak, Iowa. She was the grandmother of Matt Crandall; Alex Brockelsby; Kim, Anne and Patrick Krausgrill and great-grandmother of Anna Rose Himmelberg, Sam Clyncke, Meadow Brockelsby and Hayley Rushing. She is also survived by a sister Louise Bastron. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Friday, April 4, 2003 at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Nancy Schultz officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Thursday, April 3, 2003 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Montgomery County Historical Society, the First United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer's Association. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
